Asashio Tosses Taiho

NAGOYA, Japan, (UPI) - Yokozuna (grand champion) Asashio Monday defeated young komusubi Taiho with a powerful arm throw for his eighth victory on the eighth day of the 15-day sumo tournament here.
Twenty-year-old Taiho, glamor boy of the first tournament in January, was expected to give Asashio a keen battle but proved to be no match for the grand champion.
Three other wrestlers in the "makuuchi" or top division kept pace with Asashio with 8-1 records.
They were:
- Yokozuna Wakanohana, who easily forced put third ranking maegashira Ohikari after checking Ohikari's attack at his throat.
- Komusubi Kitabayama, who downed sixth ranking maegashira Oginohana in a hard fought bout.
- Thirty-five-year-old, 10th ranking maegashira Tokitsuyama, who drove 11th ranking maegashira Kaizan out of the ring.
Twenty-six-year-old, first ranking maegashira Tochihikari upset ozeki (champion) Wakahaguro by outpushing him and then pulling him off balance onto the sand. It was Tochihikari's second win against seven losses.
