Tochi Upset 2nd Time

    TOKYO (UPI) -First-ranking maegashira Annenyama defeated yokozuna (grand champion) Tochinishiki Monday on the second day of this year's third of six annual 15-day sumo tournaments.
    It was the second straight upset defeat for Tochinishiki. The Yokozuna was pushed out of the ring on the opening day by fifth-ranking maegashira Tokitsuyama in a in one of the major upsets of the day.
    Annenyama charged fiercely and pushed the heavier grand champion out of the ring in a hard-fought bout.
    Yokozuna Wakanohana, who won the last tournament in Osaka in March with an undefeated 15-0 record and is favored to win his second straight title, pushed out second-ranking maegashira Tsurugamine.
    Yokozuna Asashio, who has a poor record since his elevation to grand champion, had no difficulty in pushing out first-ranking maegashira Ohikari.
    Asashio, who was defeated Sunday by sixth-ranking maegashira Taiho, 19, did not give Ohikari a chance to hold his girdle and pushed him in a matter of seconds.
    Taiho was defeated by fast-charging sixth-ranking maegashira Naruyama.
 


Young Giant Loses at Sumo

    TOKYO (UPI) - Shunji Watari 21-year-old giant from Brazil, was one of 42 neophytes who made their debut Monday in Japan's age-old sumo sport.
    But Watari proved to be weak in his legs and was defeated by a youngster named Kamishima.
    Watari, 6-3 and weighing 275 pounds, arrived by boat in Japan on Apr. 6 with the determination to win fame and money in sumo.
    He became a member of the sumo stable headed by Tokitsukaze, chairman of the Japan Sumo Assn. Tokitsukaze was the former Futabayama, one of the greatest grand champions in the history of the sport.
