Tochinishiki, Wakanohana Still Unbeaten
OSAKA, Japan (UPI) - Grand champions Tochinishiki
and Wakanohana neared their title-deciding clash Sunday as they remained
undefeated Friday on the 13th day of the 15-day Osaka Sumo Tournament.
Tochinishiki barely defeated ozeki Kotogahama in
a hard-fought bout. Kotogahama, who had won over Tochinishiki in their
last two bouts, almost pushed the Yokozuna out of the ring. Tochinishiki
saved himself and lifted Kotogahama out of the ring as he also fell out.
Wakanohana attacked aggressively and easily defeated
fifth ranking maegashira Fusanishiki with an arm throw.
Sekiwake Kashiwado, one of the most promising prospects
for a future grand champion, registered his eighth victory as he pushed
hard to send sekiwake Annenyama flying out of the ring. It was Annenyama's
eighth defeat.
Maegashira Kitanonada virtually won promotion to
komusubi rank in the next tournament by capturing his eighth win by downing
komusubi Tochihikari with an arm throw.
