Kotogahama and Taiho Topple Sumo Favorites
TOKYO (UPI) - Kotogahama Friday stopped grand champion
Tochinishiki's winning streak for a major upset on the 13th day of the
year's first sumo tournament.
Kotogahama drove Tochinishiki out of the ring for
his eighth win against five defeats.
Taiho, who lost his match of the tourney Thursday,
came back to defeat strong Dewanishiki for his 12th win against one defeat.
Taiho lost his Thursday's bout to Kashiwado.
Tochinishiki and Taiho are leading the tournament
with 12-1 marks. Close on their heels are Asashio and Kaizan with 10-3
records.
Asashio, who is malting a comeback alter staying
out of 3 tournaments because of a bad hip, won his match with Wakahaguro
easily.
