Asashio Loses 2nd Straight
TOKYO (UPI) - Clever fifth-ranking maegashira Tsurugamine
defeated yokozuna (grand champion) Asashio for a major upset Thursday on
the fifth day of the 15-day sumo tournament.
It was the second defeat in five days for Asashio
who is trying a comeback after an absence from the past three tournaments
because of illness.
Tsurugamine thrust his two arms, through 29-year-old
Asashio's defense for an effective hold on the yokozuna's girdle. After
a breathing spell he charged and rushed Asashio outside of the ring.
