Tochi Tumbled 2nd Time
TOKYO (UPI) - First-ranking Maegashira Tsurugamine
staged a major upset Wednesday by defeating grand champion Tochinishiki
in a hard-fought bout on the 11th day of the 15-day autumn sumo tournament.
It was Tochinishiki's second straight defeat in
two days and he fell a bout behind his rival, grand champion Wakanohana
who beat Komusubi Annenyama for a 10-1 record.
Tochinishiki and Tsurugamine started on even terms.
Tochi quickly grasped both of Tsurugamine's arms and almost succeeded with
an arm throw. Tochi followed with another arm throw but Tsurugamine again
saved himself. Tsurugamine then attacked fiercely, thrust his two arms
through Tochi's defense and turned aggressor. He attacked repeatedly until
he forced the grand champion out of the ring.

WAKANOHANA charged fast and was quick to attain a hold
on Annenyama's girdle and promptly pushed him out of the ring. Annenyama,
who Tuesday upset Tochinishiki, never had a chance as he .failed to get
a hold on Wakanohana's girdle.
Sekiwake Wakahaguro, who is a candidate for Ozeki
(champion), remained tied with Wakanohana for the lead as he defeated second-ranking
Maegashira Dewanishiki. It was Dewanishiki's third defeat against eight
wins.
Fifteenth ranking Maegashira Atagoyama disappeared
from the list of the wrestlers with only one defeat as he bowed to strong
third ranking Maegashira Kashiwado.
Atagoyama attacked fiercely with his two hands but
Kashiwado held his ground and finally drove his opponent out of the ring.
It was Kashiwado's eighth win.
