Tochi, Waka Win; Koto Withdraws
TOKYO (UPI) - Grand champion Tochinishiki threw 20-year-old
Wakachichibu Friday for his sixth straight, win in the 15-day sumo tournament.
Grand champion Wakanohana, who was upset Thursday
by fourth-ranking: maegashira Naruyama for his only defeat thus far, had
a close shave twice as strong fifth-ranking maegashira attacked with a
leg throw.
In the end Wakanohana pushed as he lifted his taller
opponent and finally drove him out of the ring.
Ozeki Kotogahama, who Thursday suffered his fifth
straight defeat, withdrew from the tournament Friday on the advice of the
Japan Sumo Assn.'s doctor, who said he was suffering from beriberi. As
a result, fifth-ranking maegashira Matsunobori gained his second win by
forfeit.
Sekiwake Fusanishiki, who is handicapped by a foot
injury, was beaten for the sixth straight day, this time by first-ranking
maegashira Tsurugamine.
