Tochi Keeps On Winning

TOKYO (UPI) - Twenty-seven-year-old fourth-ranking maegashira Naruyama registered a major upset Thursday by defeating grand champion Wakanohana in the fifth day of the 15-day sumo tournament.
Wakanohana, No. 1 favorite to win the tournament, had been considered an easy winner because he had beaten Naruyama 11 times without a loss in past tournaments.
Grand champion Tochinishiki, a stablemate of Naruyama's continued his winning streak. Fourth-ranking maegashira Shionishiki made a strong bid but Tochinishiki stopped his attack with an arm throw.

Fifth-ranking maegashira Wakachichibu, a hero several tournaments ago, was one of the bright stars as he stopped second-ranking maegashira Dewanishiki's winning streak.
