Koto Loses Again; Tochi, Waka Win
TOKYO (UPI) - Ozeki (champion) Kotogahama, always
one of the steadiest contestants, suffered his fourth straight defeat Wednesday
in the 15-day sumo tournament.
The 31-year-old Kotogahama was sluggish, failed
to attain a hold and was pushed out of the ring by 22-year-old third-ranking
maegashira Fujinishiki.
Grand champions Tochinishiki and Wakanohana proved
too strong for their opponents and continued their winning streaks.
Tochinishiki downed former ozeki Matsunobori while
Wakanohana drove out sixth-ranking maegashira Kitanonada without trouble.
Komusubi Kitabayama defeated second-ranking maegashira
Tamahibiki in the day's hardest fought bout.
Up-and-coming third-ranking maegashira Kashiwado
stopped komusubi Annenyama's winning streak in a hard-fought bout. Kashiwado
checked Annenyama's drive and throws arid forced him out of the ring.
