Lone Sumo Wrestler Remains Undefeated
OSAKA, Japan (UPI) - Yokozuna (grand champion) Tochinishiki
Tuesday remained the only undefeated wrestler in the Makuuchi top division
as he defeated the strong 28-year-old Sekiwake Wakamaeda on the 10th day
of the current 15th day sumo tournament.
Tochinishiki, one of the most expert wrestlers in
the modern sumo era, charged with lightning speed after four false starts
and pushed out Wakamaeda in a matter of seconds.
Yokozuna Wakanohana won his ninth victory in 10.
days but was pressed hard and was forced to exert his full strength by
the hard-charging Komusubi Tochihikari.

ONLY A WELL timed turn by Wakanohana saved him at the
edge of the ring. He then lifted Tochihikari out of the ring.
Only two others among the 50 contestants hi the
Makuuchi division remained with one defeat. They were Ozeki (champion)
Kotogahama, who defeated first-ranking Maegashira Shinobuyama with a perfectly
timed arm throw, and 18th-ranked Maegashira Kashiwado, who attacked strongly
at the throat and threw sixth-ranking Maegashira Kuninobori.
Former Ozeki Matsunobori, now a second-ranking maegashira,
received tremendous applause as he pushed out the strong second-ranking
Maegashira Ohikari.
