Waka Wins 7th, Leads Tourney

TOKYO (UPI) - Yokozuna (grand champion) Wakanohana Saturday pushed first ranking maegashira Wakahaguro out of the ring and remained the only undefeated wrestler in the top makuuchi division after seven days of the 15-day Winter Sumo Tournament.
Wakahaguro tried desperately to push Wakanohana out of the ring. Wakanohana, however, checked the charge of the 60-pound heavier Wakahaguro and in turn pushed him out for the victory.
Tenth ranking maegashira 24-year-old Iwakaze tasted his first defeat in seven days when he was pushed out of the ring by eighth ranking: maegashira Tsurugamine. Iwakaze never had a chance against the stronger Tsurugamine.

IN SATURDAY'S most watched bout 33-year-old yokozuna Tochinishiki lived up to his prestige as a grand champion and defeated 19-year-old fourth ranking maegashira Wakachichibu.
Wakachichibu charged low, attacking with both hands at Tochinishiki's throat. Tochinishiki, however, thrust through his left arm through Wakachichibu's defense for a firm grip on Wakachichibu's girdle.
Tochinishiki, who won the yokozuna rank several years ago, checked the charge of the 320-pound Wakachichibu and then forced him out of the ring.
