Tochinishiki Wins Championship Cup

    Tochinishiki beams happily on capturing the Emperor's Cup, symbolic of the Grand Sumo Tournament championship, for the fifth time. He won the title by hanging up a 14-1 record in the 15-day summer tourney that closed Sunday.
    Curtains were run down on the 15-day Summer Grand Sumo Tournament Sunday at the Kokugikan with the crowning of Yokozuna as tourney champion for the fifth time.
    The 240-pound grappler, who cinched the title Saturday, made his winning record more convincing for a 14-1 by making 312-pound second-ranking Ozeki Ouchiyama hit the dirt in one of the feature bouts.
    Besides the Championship Emperor's Cup going to Tochinishiki, the Achievement Award went to Tokitsuyama; the Award for Skill, to Shinobuyama; and the Best Effort Award to Wakanoumi.
    Tochinishiki was followed, on the basis of records, by Tokitsuyama 12-3 and Kagamisato, Dewaminato and Wakanoumi 11-4.
