Sumo Tourney 2nd Day

Topflight Yokozuna ranking Yoshibayama hurls Kitanonada to the ground in one of the hardest fought struggles on the second day of the New Year's Grand Sumo Tournament at Kokugikan.

Despite his upset defeat Sunday, new Yokozuna Tochinishiki Monday preserved his hopes for a third straight major tourney championship by overcoming Futatsuryu on the second day of the New Year Grand Sumo Tournament at the
Kokugikan.
Recalling that Tochi after dropping his first match of fall tourney went on to win 14 straight to capture the title, observers feel that he has a good chance to repeat.
Onobori, conqueror of Tochi Sunday, continued to look impressive in downing Shinobuyama in one of the thrilling
battles of the day's card, Miyanishiki, a pre-tourney favorite, went down to his second straight defeat, losing to Tamanoumi.
