New Year's Sumo Season Opens in Tokyo Sunday

The 15-day New
Year's Sumo Wrestling Tournament will start at the Kuramae Kokugikan Stadium
in Tokyo Sunday, and the Japan Sumo Association announced its customary
new line-up for the two contending camps.
Grand Champions
(Yokozuna) Chiyonoyama and Kagamisato head the East Camp while the West
will be anchored by Grand Champions Tochinishiki and Yoshibayama.
It was also announced
that Komusubi, third-ranking wrestler, Shinobuyama, who was widely acclaimed
for his skill during the fall tournament, will lead the East’s younger
force, while, on the West side Miyanishiki, an upcoming sumoist, was named
as the new Komusubi.
