Sumo Fever Mounts As Meet Creaks On
The sumo fever went up several points today as the
Autumn Sumo Tournament at Tokyo's Kokugikan at Kuramae went into its 11th
day.
Grand Champion Yoshibayama, who was out of competition
during the spring and summer tourneys because of illness, stood at the
top of the behemoths with 10 straight victories. With five more matches
remaining – most with the top-seeded wrestlers in the round-robin tournament,
Yoshibayama is in the spotlight for individual honors.
Of the three other Grand Champions, Chiyonoyama
has won nine and lost one, Kagamisato has won seven with three defeats,
and Azumafuji has the worst showing with only four wins against four defeats,
one by default. He missed the first two days of the tourney.
