Sumo ‘Banzuke’ Bared For Big Autumn Tourney

    The “banzuke” (list of ratings) for the forthcoming Autumn Grand Sumo Tournament announced Friday showed no marked changes in ratings among the topflight wrestlers.
    The tournament to be held from Sunday, September 19, for 15 days at the Kokugikan arena at Kuramae, Asakusa in Tokyo is expected to prove one of the most interesting in recent years with the participation of Yoshibayama, making his initial appearance since he was promoted the “Yokozuna” rank; of Azumafuji who did not compete in the previous tourney; and of Ouchiyama and Tamanoumi who defaulted.
    The only noticeable changes involves switches of teams of some of the leading wrestlers on the basis of their showing in the previous tournament.
