Summer Sumo Tourney Opens

Mighty Yokozuna, Kagamisato, with his ponderous strength and skill, fells hapless Kotogahama in one of the main events on the opening day of the Summer Grand Sumo Tournament at Kokugikan, Kuramae, Saturday.

Defending champion Ozeki-rank Mitsuneyama suffered a stunning upset at the hands of up-and-coming young groan-and-grunter Naruyama Saturday as the Summer Grand Sumo Tournament to last for 15 days opened before a capacity Kokugikan house at Kuramae, Asakusa in Tokyo.
The tourney lost some of its luster as popular Yokozuna, Yoshibayama, failed to go through with his scheduled match with Futaseyama because of an old injury to his left leg.

Results of other main matches:
Kagamisato beat Kotogahama
Chiyonoyama beat Wakabayama
Tochinishiki beat Shimizugawa
Wakanohana beat Shinobuyama
Ouchiyama beat Wakasegawa
