Summer Sumo Opens Today

The 15-day Grand Sumo Summer Tournament opened today at the Kuramae Kokugikan in Tokyo with no overwhelming favorite to receive the Emperor's Trophy.
Experts in the sport say Grand Champion Kagamisato is the best bet, with Chiyonoyama, another grand champion having his share of backers. Mitsuneyama, winner of the recent Osaka Spring Tournament remains a dark horse, and the latest on this big fellow is that he's improved considerably since he manhandled opponents in the Osaka battle of blubber.
Yoshibayama, another grand champion, is not expected to be at his best, having recently recovered from a case of Bright's Disease, and fourth grand champion, Azumafuji, is not competing due to injuries sustained in Osaka.
Last but not least, a very large gentleman by the name of Tochinishiki is far from considered a pushover in the meet.

"DOHYOIRI"- Yoshibayama, sumo Grand Champion, and winner of 15 consecutive victories in the last Tokyo competition, goes through the tradition ring ceremony called "Dohyoiri", at the temporary at the Peers' School where he was honored by some 1,000 students.
