Japan Last Week

Chiyonoyama was the only high-ranking (Ozeki) wrestler to emerge from the May tournament with 14 victories and one defeat, the winner of the championship cup and banner for the season.
The 25 year old, 6 foot 3 inch, 33 kan Chiyonoyama was honoured last Monday with the highest rank of Yokodzuna, the highest the sumo could win; he is the 41st bearer of this title from the first Yokodzuna Akashi Shiganosuke, who flourished in the early Yedo period over three centuries ago.
