Terukuni Champion Of Autumn Sumo
Chubby "yokozuna" Terukuni won the 1950 autumn main
professional sumo tournament for the first time in his ring career, by
beating Yoshibayama, promising "sekiwake," in the extra match to decide
the championship held on the last day of the 15 day competition at the
specially constructed Kokugikan, Abenobashi, Osaka, Sunday, October 1.
Both the finalists finished their scheduled 15 bouts
with 13 wins and two losses each, as the result of which an extra match
became necessary.
