Kochi Wins Nat'l Sumo Tourney

The Kochi Technical High School sumo wrestlers chalked up their first pennant victory in the National High School Sumo Tourney, by swamping the Kochi Commercial High team by the lopsided score of three matches to 0 in the inter-team finals of the two-day competition which ended Sunday, August 27, at the Ohama ring in sakai City, Osaka Prefecture.
This was the first time in 10 years that the title match was contested between the two participating teams from Kochi.
The individual championship went to Masaru Tomigami of the Taikyu High School, who toppled Konishi of the Hokkai High School.
The national competition was sponsored jointly by the Mainichi Press, Japan Sumo Association, National High School Sumo Association and National High School Athletic Association with the support of the Sakai Municipality.
