Jap Wrestler Quits In Row Over Baseball
TOKYO, Japan (INS) - Japan's champion wrestler quit
the country's wrestling association Monday because of the criticism that
resulted when he skipped an important tournament and went to see a baseball
game.
Sumo Wrestling Champ Kanematsu Maedayama played
hookey from the big autumn grunt and groan tourney in Osaka to watch the
visiting San Francisco Seals play a Japanese nine.
And since baseball is wrestling's big rival in Japan,
Maedayama's bosses severely criticized him. His resignation followed.
