Baseball Interest High in Japan
Tokyo (INS) - Japanese interest in baseball is running
so high today that it bids fair to supplant the national sport of sumo
wrestling.
Japanese arbiters of the formalized Japanese version
of the grunt and groan pastime were outraged when their national champion
Maedayama deserted a tournament in Osaka.
Maedayama played hookey to take in a game between
the Tokio Giants and the barnstorming San Francisco Seals. The athlete's
absence from the mat precipitated a formal investigation.
