Grand Champion Maedayama is an avid baseball fan, so much so that he took in the Seals vs. Giants game on October 15 despite the fact that the autumn sumo tournament is in full swing in Osaka.
    The matter is being investigated officially by the sumo association.
    The Grand Champion, after a miserable showing of one win and five defeats in six days of the 15 day tournament, withdrew from the meet on the basis of a medical certificate claiming intestinal disorders.
    But on the day the certificate vouching for his illness was presented, Maedayama was already in Tokyo and watching the Seals-Giants baseball game.
