Sumo Contest Slated

    HQ., RYCOM - The first matches in the all-Okinawa sumo wrestling championship will be held Sunday afternoon in the Sumo Arena at the native compound, 78th Quartermaster Base Depot at Tengan. Matches will get under way at 2 p.m.
    Occupation personnel on the island, as well as Okinawas, are invited to participate in the sport. Application blanks may be obtained at the Okinawa compound, 78th Base Depot, or at the office of the Okinawa Times, Naha, located near the 595th Engineer Depot.
    Sumo is a type of wrestling developed in Okinawa centuries ago and is one of the Ryukyus most popular sports. It is quite different from the famed sumo, which prevails in Japan.
