The 13 day spring sumo tournament was a complete success for Grand Champion Azumafuji who won the victor's cup. A native of Tokyo, it was his first appearance as a Grand Champion.
    Youthful Kuninobori had the trophy all but won on the final day Monday but Minenoyama proved too strong.
    The outstanding performer of the tourney was Minenoyama who had a 9-4 record. Kuninobori was awarded a prize for showing the most fight.
    The best record of the 240 wrestlers - 12 wins and one defeat - was registered by Yoshiyama.
