Sumo Meet Opens For College Grapplers
SAKAI, Nov. 13 - Participated in by approximately
200 representatives throughout the country, the 26th All-Japan Intercollegiate
Sumo Championship Meet was opened today, beginning at 9.30 a.m., at the
specially constructed sumo ring, under the joint sponsorship of the Japan
Sumo Federation and the Mainichi Press.
Following opening addresses by Director Asai of
the Mainichi and President Kinoshita of the Federation, the championship
flag was returned by a captain of Osaka College, champion of the 25th meet.
After an oath by Mizunaga of the Osaka University
of Commerce on behalf of all participating teams, the inter-school 1st
round preliminary match began at 10 a.m.
