Wrestler Azumafuji Made 40th Grand Champion
In view of their good showing in the autumn main
professional sumo tourney, Azumafuji, "ozeki," and Masuiyama, "sekiwake,"
were promoted to the rank of "yokozuna" and "ozeki," respectively, at a
conference of the Japan Sumo Association held in Osaka Tuesday morning,
October 26.
With Azumafuji as the 40th "yokozuna," the number
of grand champions now on the roster of the association has increased to
four, the three others being Haguroyama, Terukuni and Maedayama.
A native of Tokyo Metropolis, the new "yokozuna"
(real name Kin-ichi Inoue) is 27 years old. He has a ring career of 13
years.
The 29 year old new "ozeki," Masuiyama, (real name
Kuniaki Sawada) hails from Himeji City, Hyogo Prefecture and has a ring
career of 14 years.
