Masuiyama Wins Sumo Championship

Masuiyama, "sekiwake" of the West team, realized his long cherished ambition of capturing the individual championship in the main professional sumo tournament when he threw down Azumafuji, "ozeki" of the same camp, in a play-off of the autumn tourney, which wound up at the specially constructed ring, Fukushima, Osaka, on October 25, after an 11 day series.
The finalists finished their respective playing schedule with 10 wins and one defeat, as a result of which a play-off was required to decide the individual champion.
