Azumafuji Wins Title
11-Day Sumo Tournament At Meiji Shrine Ends
TOKYO, May 28. - Azumafuji, hefty "ozeki" of the
West Team, chalked up his first individual pennant victory in the summer
main sumo tourney which wound up today after an 11 day series at the specially
constructed ring in the outer garden of the Meiji Shrine here.
He won 10 out of 11 matches in the current series,
losing only to Rikidozan on the second day.
Terukuni, one of the three "yokozuna" wrestlers,
finished with nine wins and two defeats, and two other grand champions,
Haguroyama and Maedayama, were out from the ring since the opening day.
In the "juryo" junior camp, Kuninobori won the individual
title, by winning nine out of 11 matches.
