Grand Champion Haguroyama was finally thrown on the eighth day of the autumn sumo tournament by up-and-coming Chiyonoyama. Hitachiyama, however, is still leading the wrestlers together with youthful Dewanishiki. Both have seven wins and only one loss. Grand Champion Maedayama lost another match to bring his record to five victories and three defeats.
