Grand Champ Haguroyama Throws Down Azumafuji
TOKYO, June 12. - Showing class as the grand champion
in Japanese sumodom, Haguroyama, captain of the East team, threw down Azumafuji,
the only undefeated "ozeki" grappler, in a feature bout on the ninth day
of the summer main sumo tourney at the Meiji Shrine sumo ring here today.
As a result of Azumafuji's first defeat in the current
tournament, six wrestlers - Haguroyama, Maedayama, Azumafuji. Rikidozan,
Midorishima and Onoumi - tied for the leadership in the individual competition
of the senior camp, each losing only one match.
The results of the other main matches were:
