Shionoumi Defeated; East Maintaining Lead
TOKYO, June 7 - Shionoumi, new "ozeki" of the West
team, suffered his second defeat in the current summer main sumo tourney
at the hands of Mitsuneyama, promising "komusubi" on the fifth day of the
10 day series at the Meiji Shrine sumo ring here today.
Maintaining its lead since the opening day, the
East squad outpointed the West aggregation 12 to 9 on that day in the interteam
competition. The total score was 65 to 39 in favor of the East camp.
