Can Haguroyama Realize 53 Victory Ambition

    TOKYO, June 1 - With attention centered on whether the defending champion Haguroyama, "yokozuna," will be able to realize his ambition of winning 35 straight victories in the official matches, the summer main tourney of the Japan Sumo Association got under way at the ring in the compounds of the Meiji Shrine here this morning.
    On the opening day of the 10 day series, three leading wrestlers including Chiyonoyama, "sekiwake," Nayoroiwa, "ozeki," and Masuiyama, "komusubi," were absent from the ring due to illness.
    Aside from grand champion Haguroyama, Terukuni, "yokozuna" or winner of the previous Kansai tournament, and two "ozeki" grapplers - Azumafuji and Shionoumi - are regarded as promising candidates for the individual title.
