Tokyo Sumo Tourney To Be Opened June 1
Drawing wide attention of sumo fans throughout the
country, the much awaited summer sumo tourney of the Japan Professional
Sumo Association will be held for 10 days at the specially constructed
ring of the Nile Kinnick Stadium (formerly Meiji Shrine Grounds), Tokyo.
Prior to the opening of the 10 day main tournament,
the new rankings for wrestlers on the roster of the association will be
announced on May 26.
Akinoumi, "yokozuna," who has already expressed
his intention to resign from the sumo ring, will stage his last official
sumo match on June 11 when a farewell meet is held at the same ring.
