Sumo Tourney Begins

High Ranking Wrestlers Show Stuff On 1st Day

    The autumn main tourney of the Dai Nippon Sumo Association raised its curtain on November 6 at 8.30 a.m. at the Memorial Hall (formerly Kokugikan), Ryogoku, Tokyo. The tournament will last for 13 days.
    On the opening day, all the high ranking wrestlers including Haguroyama and Terukuni, both "yokozuna," defeated their respective opponents. In the inter team competition, both the East and West teams scored 11 points each.

The results of the leading matches on the first day were:
Masuiyama stretched out Fudoiwa
Shionoumi pushed out Midorishima
Maedayama thrust out Kusunishiki
Saganohana stretched out Kashimanada
Nayoroiwa derricked out Shachinosato
Azumafuji stretched out Kuganishiki
Terukuni thrust out Ohnoumi
Haguroyama derricked out Saganohana
