Osaka Sumo Tourney
Main Bouts To Be Held 11 Days From June 14
The Osaka main tourney of the Japan Professional
Sumo Association will be held for 11 days from, June 14 at the sumo ring
specially constructed at the plaza in front of the Citizen's Hospital at
Asahi-machi, Abeno-cho, Osaka.
All of the 400 wrestlers on the roster of the association
including four "yokozuna" grapplers, namely Futabayama, Terukuni, Akinoumi
and Haguroyama, will participate in the coming main tourney.
With the support of the Osaka Prefectural and municipal
governments, the tournament will be jointly sponsored by the Osaka prefectural
branch of the Japanese Compatriots' Relief Society and the Japan Sumo Association.
In the forthcoming meet, Futabayama, who has already
expressed his intention to resign from the professional sumo circles, will
perform his final "dohyoiri" or a ceremony marking the formal entrance
of a "yokozuna" grapplers in the sumo ring.
All participating wrestlers will do their best in
the Osaka series because the summer main tourney of the association originally
scheduled to have been held in May in Tokyo has been canceled.
A party of wrestlers, who are now touring various
parts of the country, will assemble in Osaka on around June 11 to take
part in the Osaka meet.
