Sumo Tournament
Matches Will Be Held At Meiji Shrine Ring From May 23
Named "Grand sumo tournament dedicated to the Meiji
Shrine" the annual summer tournament of the Dai Nippon Professional Sumo
Association will be held on seven fair days from May 23 at the sumo ring
in the outer garden of the shrine, the association announced on May 6.
The ranking for the tourney will be announced on
May 12 at 6 a.m. and the formal opening of the ring will take place on
May 22.
No admission fee will be charged, admission being
limited to those having complimentary tickets, which will be chiefly distributed
to special enthusiasts and industrial warriors.
The matches will last from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. every
day but the contests during the forenoon, when low ranking wrestlers will
vie, will not be open to public. Open contests of high ranking wrestlers
will begin at 1 p.m.
In case of an air alert or of rain the matches will
be postponed to the following day.
