Sumo Tourney Opens Today

Mitsuneyama Scores Big Upset On 1st Day

    A big upset marked the opening day of the summer main sumo tourney of the Dai Nippon Sumo Association on May 7 at the specially constructed ring in the Korakuen stadium, Koishikawa, Tokyo, when Terukuni, "yokozuna" of the West team, went down in defeat before Mitsuneyama.
    In the senior inter-team competition, the East team outpointed the west team 13 to 11 on the day.
