New Sumo Rankings

The Dai Nippon Sumo Association on May 2 announced the new rankings of sumo wrestlers for the coming summer main sumo tourney, which will be held for 10 days beginning May 7 at the specially constructed ring in the Korakuen stadium at Koishikawa, Tokyo, instead of the Kokugikan, as hitherto.
By virtue of its victory in the last tourney, the West team was made the East team, while the former East team became the West team.
Higher-ups in the new rankings are:

East Team
Haguroyama yokozuna
Futabayama yokozuna
Maedayama ozeki
Saganohana sekiwake
Kamikaze komusubi
West Team
Terukuni yokozuna
Akinoumi yokozuna
Sagamigawa sekiwake
Masuiyama sekiwake
Toyoshima komusubi

Ring Construction Begins

The Dai Nippon Sumo Association on May 1 started the construction of a sumo ring at the Korakuen baseball stadium, Koishikawa, Tokyo.
The work is expected to be completed by about May 5.
This will be the first time in 36 years, or to be precise, since 1909, that a main sumo tourney will be held at an outdoor ring instead of the Kokugikan.
