SUMMER SUMO TOURNEY DUE AT KORAKUEN ARENA

Ten Day Matches to Start May 7 - First Open Air Wrestling in 36 Years.

    The grand summer tournament will be held in the open arena at the Korakuen Baseball Field for a period of ten days, excluding rainy days, beginning May 7, according to an announcement made on Wednesday by the Dai Nippon Sumo Kyokai.
    The official list of participating wrestlers will be released on May 2 and the sumo arena festival and the beating of drums to announce the wrestling matches are scheduled for May 6.
    The matches will commence at noon sharp daily and end by 4pm, including entry ceremonies of the grand champions. The participating wrestlers will be limited  to those above "juryo" rank and a few outstanding grapplers of the junior rank. Reminding one of the day of old Yedo, it will be the first time in 36 years that the grand sumo tournament will be held under the open sky.
    Seats for spectators will be divided into first, second and third class, with the highest admission fee costing ¥4.90.
