Osaka Sumo 1st Day

    The Osaka tourney of the Dai Nippon Sumo Association, aimed at raising enterprise funds of the Osaka branch of the Military Welfare Society, opened on March 2 at the specially constructed ring at Abenobashi.
    Prior to participating in the tourney, Haguroyama, "yokozuna" performed "dezuiri" (entrance ceremony of the grand champion into the ring) in the precinct of the Osaka Gokoku Shrine at 11.30 a.m.

The results of the leading bouts on the opening day were:

Masuiyama defeated Tsurugamine
Sagamigawa defeated Kashiwado
Wakasegawa defeated Terunobori
Kyushuzan defeated Nayoroiwa

Futabayama To Be Absent

    Futabayama, "yokozuna," will be absent from the Osaka sumo tourney for some time due to illness.


Admission Fees Lowered
    Based on the emergency measure for the restriction of admission, the Dai Nippon Sumo Association will lower the admission fees for its Osaka tourney from March 5, the fourth day of the 13 day tournament.
    As a result, admission (all charges including taxes) for the sumo tourney will be divided only into two classes, namely general seat (¥3) and special seat (¥4.90), instead of the existing five classes, viz., general seat (¥3), 2nd class (¥5), 1st class (¥7.50), special seat (¥10), and designated seat (¥12.35).
