Osaka Pro Sumo
13-Day Spring Tournament To Start Tomorrow
The Dai Nippon Sumo Association will hold its Osaka
tourney for 13 days from March 2 at the specially constructed Kokugikan
at Abenobashi to raise funds for the Osaka prefectural branch of the Military
Welfare Society, being participated in by practically all the wrestlers
on the roster of the association, including Futabayama, and Haguroyama,
both "yokozuna."
Prior to the opening of the tourney, the time-honored
ring festival was observed on February 29 from 10 a.m. with Inoue Shikimori
officiating.
The ceremony was attended by Major-General Takano
of the military service department of the Osaka Division, Colonel Sakumi
of the military service department of the Central Nippon Army, and 2nd
Lieutenant Kawamura representing the commander-in-chief of the Osaka naval
defense headquarters.
Terukuni and Akinoumi, both "yokozuna," will be
absent from the ring in the coming tourney due to illness and injury, respectively.
