Saganohana Cops Spring Sumo Title

Inter-Team Championship Won By West Group 164 To 152

Saganohana

By winning 13 out of 15 matches, Saganohana, "komusubi" of the West team, won the individual championship in the spring main sumo tourney which was brought to a close at the Kokugikan, Ryogoku, Tokyo, on January 23. He defeated Hishuzan on the final day, by which victory he won the honor for the first time.
On the final day, Haguroyama, "yokozuna" of the West team, was toppled by Sagamigawa, "sekiwake." In an all-"yokozuna" bout, or the last match of the tourney, Terukuni defeated Futabayama.
The West team won the inter-team competition by the total score of 164 points to 152, thus avenging its defeat in the summer tourney last year.
Following the completion of matches, a ceremony of presenting prizes was held, in which winners in various classes were commended
