Terukuni Toppled

Tricky Kashiwado Upsets Roly-Poly 'Yokozuna' On Meet's Third Day

Another "yokozuna" grappler was defeated on the third day of the spring main sumo tourney, January 11, at the Kokugikan, Tokyo, when Terukuni went down in defeat before tricky Kashiwado. Futabayama thus became the only undefeated "yokozuna" wrestler.
On that day, the West team outpointed the East team 13 to 11 to further increase its lead in the inter-team series to 11 points.
Komatsuyama, "maegashira", who was matched with Futasegawa, "sekiwake" on that day, defaulted due to foot injury suffered in his bout with Terukuni, "yokozuna," on the second day, January 10, while Nayoroiwa, "ozeki" of the same team, who recently underwent an operation of his right foot, will be absent from the fourth day.

The results of the other leading bouts on the third day were:

Masuiyama va Tamanoumi
Kiyomigawa vs Terunobori
Sagamigawa vs Okuma
Nayoroiwa vs Bishuyama
Maedayama vs Hishuzan
Futabayama vs Dewaminato
Haguroyama vs Wakasegawa
