Osaka Sumo Tourney

Nippon Servicemen Will Be Invited Daily To See Matches

    The Dai Nippon Sumo Association will hold its Osaka tourney for 13 days from November 11 at the specially constructed Kokugikan at Asahi-machi, Abeno-ku, being participated in by all the 812 wrestlers on the roster of the association including the four Yokozuna grapplers, Futabayama, Terukuni, Haguroyama and Akinoumi.
    The forthcoming tourney will be held in commemoration of the fifth anniversary of the founding of the Osaka prefectural branch of the Military Welfare Society.
    During the 13 day tourney, 500 military officers and men, as well as wounded servicemen will be invited every day to see the sumo matches.
    On the first day of the tourney, the four Yokozuna grapplers will perform the "dohyoiri" ceremony from 10 a.m. at the Osaka Shrine for the War Dead.
    The pupils' sumo matches to be held under the direction of Akinoumi, Yokozuna, on November 13 from 9.30 a.m. at the Maruyama national primary school, Abeno-ku, Osaka, will be filmed to make motion pictures for pacification work in the South, after which Kasagiyama will deliver a lecture regarding sumo.
    More than 200 students of the circular sumo young men's school of the Dai Nippon Sumo Association will receive lessons and military training every day during the coming sumo series.
