2 'Yokozuna' Beaten

Terukuni And Akinoumi Bow on 9th Day Of Sumo Tourney

    Terukuni and Akinoumi, both "yokozuna" of the West team, suffered their second defeat at the hands of Futamiyama and Kamikaze, respectively, in big upsets on the ninth day of the summer main sumo tourney, May 20, at the Kokugikan, Tokyo.
    Maedayama, "ozeki" of the East team, tasted his third defeat when he was defeated by Futasegawa, "komusubi."
    On the ninth day, the West team outpointed the East team 13 points to 8, to cut the latter's lead to five points, 103 to 98.
