Matsuuragata Causes Youngest 'Yokozuna' To Get 1st Black Ball

Terukuni vs. Matsuuragata

    Terukuni, the youngest among the four "yokozuna" grapplers, went down in defeat at the hands of fighting Matsuuragata on the fifth day of the current summer main sumo tourney of the Dai Nippon Sumo Association, May 16.
    This was the first defeat suffered by a "yokozuna" grappler in the current tourney. Save for Futabayama, Haguroyama and Akinoumi, all holding the title of "yokozuna," Kiyomigawa, a "maegashira" in the West team, was the only wrestler to maintain his winning streak at the end of the day.
    Although the West team outpointed the East team by 12 to 10 on that day, the latter still holds a 62 to 52 lead.

2 'Ozeki' Downed

    Maedayama and Nayoroiwa, both "ozeki" of the East team, were again defeated by Wakasegawa and Dewaminato, respectively, on the sixth day of the summer main sumo tourney, May 17, at the Kokugikan, Tokyo.
    The West team further narrowed the East team's lead in the senior inter-team series to four points, 70 to 66 by outpointing the latter 14 to 8 on that day.
