TERUKUNI IS SELECTED AS WEST CAMP CAPTAIN

15-Day Summer Sumo Tournament to Begin on May 9

    Grand champion Terukuni has been selected as the captain of the west camp in the 15-day summer tournament which will begin on May 9, it was announced by the All-Japan Sumo Association.
    He replaces Grand Champion Akinoumi. Grand Champion Futabayama remains the captain of the east camp.
    In the spring tournament, Terukuni, by winning 14 out of 15 matches, ranked a close second to Futabayama, who won the individual championship with a clean slate of 15 victories. He is the youngest among his rank. He is 25 years old.
    By winning the championship in the last tournament, Futabayama's camp has been transferred from the west to the east side, which is considered the higher rank.
    Noteworthy among the sumo wrestlers who have been promoted to higher ranks is Toyoshima. He was raised from "komusubi" to "sekiwake". In the last spring series he won 10 matches and lost five. He will be in the west camp in the coming summer tournament.
