'Yokozuna' Captures Title For 11th Time With sweeping Victory

Again establishing a brilliant record of no defeats, Futabayama, captain of the West team, won his 11th individual title in the spring main tourney of the Dai Nippon Sumo Association held at the Kokugikan at Ryogoku, Tokyo, for 15 days ending on Sunday, January 24.
Akinoumi, captain of the East team, who was matched to meet Futabayama on the final day, January 24, defaulted due to a foot injury suffered in his bout with Maedayama on January 23. Futabayama was thus given an uncontested win according to the rule.
Terukuni defeated Haguroyama in an all "yokozuna" match.
In the team competition in the senior camps, the West team defeated the East team by only three points, 165 to 162.
